Thinking of getting this for the summer, out of nothing else to get. Can't find it cheaper than £40 though, so gonna wait =P _________________

If he can keep it to less than 200 words I'd happily read it ^^; I don't have an Xbox 360 console but even if I did I wouldn't be going crazy for this. _________________

Blahhh... =P
The only reason I've been going on about it is because they handled the European release date like morons. Seriously. If it had been a simple, "we'll release it on so and so in so and so" that would have been one thing, but the game had about eight different launch dates (at one point there were about three at the same time on different sites) and the people who Namco had put in charge of publishing it said that they weren't going to do it after all. Then Namco released an official statement that it was bringing it here. Then Atari said it wasn't. Then a French Atari site said it was coming out while the English ones said no such thing... You can probably see how irritating this got for guys like me by now.
The moral of the story is: never let Atari publish anything.
Anywhoo, I have to say that I've thoroughly enjoyed ToV so far. The visuals, combat and voice acting are the best yet, and I like how diverse the characters, good and evil are (Yuri, for one, is quite simply an awesome badass). Plus, it's got one of the funniest scripts I've seen the series come up with yet. There have been a handful of "Cudpug lines" (you know that feeling you get when you laugh and then you suddenly realise that you're laughing at is close to the edge?). One of the big bads was naff though, but I guess you can't expect anything less from Albert Wesker. =P
As for whether the game itself is the best in the series... Hrm... I'm not sure. I think it's better as a game, in terms of how it plays, but I think Abyss had a better plot overall, and that's always important for RPG's... but of course, I'm an impatient wolly by nature, so obviously I missed half the sidequest content. Oh well, that's something to do for next time. _________________ Skype: sam.tbd

I gave up after the second round. If they don't like my food, they can sod off...
I'm trying to find the dragonboat racing (or something to that extent...). Any ideas on where I'd find it?
Oh yeah, and because I've had a few people ask me how to get Repede's Mystic Arte (apparently, it's easily missed, even resident Tales master Ivan had no idea where to find it), here's how it goes. Names of stuff made difficult to see, 'cus Alex'd kill me for saying a town name too soon. =P
After you get the second "big" story achievement, go to Helliord. On the right-hand side there's Mr. and Mrs. Hapless Family. A brief chat with them followed by a battle with a few monsters later, Repede will automatically learn the skill "Special". Just thought I'd put that out there to lend a hand to everybody. _________________ Skype: sam.tbd

I don't know... Vesperia is better in terms of game elements. It all depends on what you want: story or gameplay.
That being said, Alex, you probably haven't seen the crowning moments of badassery yet. _________________ Skype: sam.tbd

At Keiv Moc or whatever it's called. The forest where you meet Duke.
What I do like about the game is the myriad characters. There's tons, which is great, and with more still to meet it's gonna be awesome.
However, the storyline is pretty boring right now. It's far more 'go here' than any Tales game I've played before. The fact is, the Blastia idea isn't really interesting enough at the moment to make the game that compelling to play. It's just 'Arrive at new place, problem with Blastia, fix it, move on'. Already this has been the case three or four times, and I'm sure it's going to happen again. I do hope that the storyline doesn't focus around Blastia. It's a barrier. Aer is an energy. Big deal.
Even if the storyline gets way better, the first 10 hours or so haven't been the best start to the game in terms of a narrative.
Another gripe I have is that during some scenes there seems to be an odd signiture with the audio. The music seems to be played far too high in heated scenes and drowns out the voices of the characters, which seems like a bit of a problem at times. _________________

Just change the music volume in the Config. section. =P
I don't deny that the story's a bit weak though, especially in the beginning, but I digress (not to mention repeat what Ivan said in his review), but I'm not too disappointed. I think the script is good enough to keep one playing though. That said, you're totally right about the repetitive nature of "go here, fix blastia X, etc..." _________________ Skype: sam.tbd

I don't know...I'm just not getting the vibe out of this game that I got from Symphonia and Abyss. I can't see my bothering to replay this one at all, and from what I've seen so far it's pretty simplistic and as I say, boring. The only saving grace is that Judith is really fun to play as. _________________

I wouldn't say boring. Combat's fun as it's always been and the dungeons are definitely better this time round. It's just that the story's taken a big knock. It's a disappointment on that front, sure, but once you get over it there's plenty to enjoy.
And yes, Judith is a great addition. We need more aerial fighters in action RPG's. _________________ Skype: sam.tbd

I've yet to play it SS, but isn't that what draws you into RPG's in the first place? The good ones are meant to have an engaging story, aren't they? _________________

That's what I thought. If you have to play an RPG that drags you by the nose into a story, at least make it a good one. _________________

Oh don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that Vesperia can excuse having a relatively average plot and it will definitely be losing marks for that in the review. I'm just saying that it hardly seems fair to label the whole game as "boring" when it ticks a lot of other boxes. In particular, the way it plays is the best of the bunch.
The plot itself walks the line between blandness and brilliance without ever looking like it's going to fall into one category or another. It's not bad per se, but it could be better. Yes, it is a shame, and yes that is one of the reasons why we play RPG's in the first place, and yes it is exceptionally cheeky for Vesperia to come up with a plot that doesn't rival its predecessors, but even so... I just can't find it in me to label it "boring".
Despite the main story being fairly standard stuff, there are plenty of interesting ideas scattered about, like the way it looks at vigilante activities, and I for one found the in-game science of aer to be a nice, fresh take on an age-old concept.
Plus, the dialogue's made me laugh more times than I can count, so it must be doing something right. _________________ Skype: sam.tbd

I'm finding some of the dialogue to be good, but other bits quite awkward. _________________

I think Estelle's the only awkward one, and that's because she's a noble among a band of commoners and psychotics. She's bound to look out of place. Everybody else is fine in my book. Michelle Ruff does a great job with Rita in particular. _________________ Skype: sam.tbd

Rita is good, yeah. My favourite voice actress is Judith's. She makes Judith sound kinky. _________________

It's a trait that is quite good in Tales of games. The voice actors are a cut above the norm most of the time. _________________

I was referring to the fact that Judith gets kinkier/wronger/hotter/better/worse/insertyourownadjectiveofchoice here as time goes on, but yeah you're right. _________________ Skype: sam.tbd

I've just had a quick look at some of the DLC for Vesperia. Not the most impressive. +5 levels? + 10 levels - two of each? Trial pack of skills that can be learned in the game? And 300,000 gold? Ah bwuh? Some pretty unimpressive stuff there. _________________

Yeah, I think I told you that the other day. It's removing any incentive to play the game if you can buy levels. _________________

Wasn't aware the DLC was coming out/already out over here. They could have done something a little more worthwhile, surely.
Dog sucks. _________________
