I thought the first Assassin's Creed was great, it was bigger than Prince of Persia and looked fantastic. But, as everyone knows, it got repetitive and relied on you completing the same tasks. Plus too much time was spent with boring Desmond to shoehorn a story, which wasn't too bad, uncomfortably in. But, and this a big 'but, the sequel looks phenomenal. Ezio is more agile, enemies are smarter, there's an economy system where you can earn money to recruit thieves, mercenaries or courtesans; spend it on upgrades for your armour and weapons, or buy new stuff like smoke bombs and bullets for the hidden gun.
What I think I'll like about this is the doing away with the repetitive nature, and a bigger focus on the player controlled characters life. Missions are meant to be a lot better and there will be more of them, around 16 instead of 4. Plus, the game takes place over 30 years of Ezio's life, starting as a young Florentine and progressing to a master assassin. You'll often meet characters in the story who you will have to assassinate many years later, plus the guilds (thieves etc.) will pay you to do their bidding; it looks there will be more of a focus on actually killing people creatively (the emphasis on that has been adjusted to keeping your hands, figuratively, clean) than pick pocketing or duffing up a carbon copy.
I'll just make a boring list (because this has been so riveting already I thought I'd tone it down) of what I am excited about:

- upgradeable weapons and equipment
- guilds who you can work for and employ
- better acrobatics/ climbing
- more ways to assassinate, such as double assassination
- Leonardo Da Vinci will be inventing your weapons from plans you find, as well as input from other historical characters
- a better plot for the assassin
- secret areas that you can access in each city that look to be a bit like Akham Asylum's challenge rooms

I'm cautiously excited.

I mean, the first game was good but very shallow, despite that it was enjoyable through to the conclusion. I've been reading various articles and it seems this'll be a far more involving experience, with the focus squarely on the actions of your past self instead of all the Desmond malarky. The new weapon system should keep the fight interesting (the main repetition, for me, was the fighting) with each type of weapon hopefully bringing a new combo tree to the combat.

Not sure about day one, but i'll pick it up close to there, anyway.

I'm betting it'll be a solid 8/10 game. Possibly 9/10 if all goes well. I'd give the first one about 6/10 personally. I found it got incredibly boring very quickly. The gameplay was just a rinse-and-repeat of the same things again and again for the majority of the game. This is looking to have much more variety though.

Shouldn't this be in the General Gaming forum? (Just saying as the game in question is gonna be on the PS3, XBOX 360, PC, and the iPhone OS.)

But anyway, it's definitely on my want list. I enjoyed the first one, so this certainly has my interest.

I suppose it could, I just assumed most people had a (I want to use 'an') xbox.

I want Di Vinci to make me a tank.

Then maybe I could pretend to be a cart? If a blatantly armed man who is wanted by all the guards around can pretend to be a scholar and get away with it...

Looks like it's been getting solid 9/10 reviews by average players and critics alike.

If I could play it, I'd have it already. Looks like a blast.

I still have five more memory blocks to go on this, at least I think it's five. I'm on number nine and the last one, in the achievements, is memory block 14, but 12 and 13 aren't there. Oh well, I'm really enjoying it, especially working my way through the Assassin's tombs - only one left.

Just a warning, in case you didn't know (you might do, though), it starts off fairly slowly and it's some while before you actually perform a proper assassination or even don the Assassin garb.

Aye I know, have been watching walkthrough vids of like the first half hour. I actually like how you start off in civvies.

EDIT: Amazon just mailed me, was dispatched today, should come in the morning or tomorrow. Decided not to pay for Next Day, too expensive!

I've been looking at Assassin's Creed 2 DLC and I found two articles that are kind of interesting:
IncGamers wrote:
Speaking to IncGamers, associate producer for Assassin's Creed, Vincent Pontbriand said the latest iteration of the game will feature DLC.

"There are plans for DLC, but I am not allowed to talk about it, but it's something that creates longevity."

Pontbriand was unable to comment any further on what the DLC would be, how it would make the game different, if at all, and when we'd see it, but was happy enough to confirm that DLC was certainly in the works.

Something Pontbriand was a llittle cagey about was multiplayer. Although Pointbriand said the team were considering multiplayer modes, they weren't sure how to implement it.

We've been talking in the IncGamers office and we reckon, if it is something that will be included in the final game, or whether it's something that's tacked on using DLC, there are a lot of great opportunities for multiplayer modes.

We suggest, and Ubi take note, First Kill mode, where a group of you compete to kill a target first; Co-op Assassinations, which sees you utilising the Creed and working together to lure and destroy targets; Hunted mode, where you play as either the hunted or the hunter in a survival context; and finally Assassination mode, a team deathmatch kind of game where you take on a rival Assassin's guild.

Destructoid wrote:
The bonus retailer content for Assassin’s Creed II isn’t an exclusive-exclusive intended solely for those who pre-order the game. According to AC II creative producer Patrice Desilets, the two bits of DLC -- the Palazzo Medici and Santa Maria Dei Frari -- will, at some point, become available for all to enjoy.

"Eventually everyone will have the entire game," Desilets told Kotaku in a recent interview. "I made sure of that. Because I'm Canadian, I don't have the same shops as you do. So I wanted to make sure I could at least someday play everything in the game. Eventually there's going to be, okay, let's unlock everything."

As Kotaku notes, Desilets didn’t mention price or how and when the content will be released. For an unrelated title, Batman: Arkham Asylum, the pre-order bonus DLC hit PSN within a few weeks of its release date. This is a bad barometer, but it’s worth noting that these things can happen relatively fast, especially if fans eat their vitamans and pray to the videogame almighty dragon gods regularly.

Its something touch based hence the big mother fudging buttons.

On another note, I am enjoying my time in Venice, apart from the Assassin Chamber in that where you have to pull the levers down. I dont work well under pressure!

Yeah, because Ubisoft and Infinity Ward are really struggling. It is good though that the Call of Duty 4: Wii will have the same multiplayer that was on the 360. It doesn't really appeal to anyone on here, but you can't deny it won't be popular.

But...they are completely different experiences.

ME focuses on the thrill of the chase, while this is all about messing around in an open word. Not to mention the change from FP to TP brings about a massive difference.

But...they are completely different experiences.

ME focuses on the thrill of the chase, while this is all about messing around in an open word. Not to mention the change from FP to TP brings about a massive difference.

AC (the first one) was boring. Barely got my adrenaline pumping at all and the game was clunky to play. When it worked it was breathless but when it didn't it sucked! The combat was bland and easily abused, and the constant recycling of voice clips, mission objectives and moves was the height of repetition Confused
